AAA ‘TeenSMART’ Program Takes Driver Training To Next Level
SAN FRANCISCO, January 17, 2005 – A new driver training program from AAA of Northern California could help teens become safer drivers and save money on car insurance.
TeenSMART uses a combination of at-home and behind-the-wheel training to give licensed teen drivers the advanced, real-world skills they need to drive safely and avoid accidents. Teens who successfully complete the course are eligible for a discount on their auto insurance premium.
“Teens are nearly three times more likely to die behind the wheel than all other drivers,” said Cynthia Harris, spokesperson for AAA of Northern California. “TeenSMART graduates are 71% less likely to have police reported accidents than the national average.”
The TeenSMART program walks teens through a student workbook, a videotape and a set of six CD-ROMs, and also provides a guide for parents. Teens, with assistance from their parents, complete the eight to ten hour program at their own pace at home and in the car. Upon completion, eligible teens can receive a discount of up to 20 percent on their AAA auto insurance.
